Make sure to follow all of these steps before attempting to install mods, this can be helpful to avoid bugs.
Saves, Local Files and Cloud Saves
Backup your save files
The next steps will be destructive, you can copy them back later, and they should synchronize back just fine.
Open a file explorer on your computer, and navigate to:
C:\Users\<My Username>\Documents\My Games\
Alternatively, here's a path that uses an environment variable, which you can just paste into your search:
%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\
Rename your Fallout 4 folder
This folder contains your save files, when you rename it and start the game, it will regenerate this folder, your saves will not show up in the game, unless you migrate the Saves folder or turn on Steam Cloud Saves.
There will be a "Fallout 4" folder, rename it to "Fallout 4_Backup", you can delete this folder or migrate save files from there later on.
Disable and Re-Enable Cloud Saves
In Steam, right click Fallout 4, click Properties, and uncheck: "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Fallout 4".
Launch the game at least once, to regenerate your "Fallout 4"-folder.
Exit the game and enable the Cloud Saves by checking the checkbox in the games properties within Steam, however keep in mind, this will download all saves you have in your steam cloud.
Verify Your Game Data
Make sure Steam isn't downloading Fallout 4 at the moment, if it's doing so, please wait until it finished before proceeding.
Inside of Steam, right click Fallout 4 and click Properties, inside there click on Local Files and click Verify integrity of game files.
When it said it successfully checked all files, you can proceed.
Game Settings
When starting Fallout 4, you can change the quality of the game.
It'll set it to the lowest, as all modern graphics cards aren't recognized.
Click Options, then change the resolution to match it of your monitor.
Windows 11: Right click your desktop > Show more options > Display settings, scroll down until you see Display resolution. For example: 2560x1440.
For Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering, either select the best settings of leave them on low, as you prefer.
Launch the game.
Click on Settings > Gameplay > Vibrations and change it to Off.
Turning Vibrations off will positively affect your FPS, however if you prefer to play with vibrations, you can try playing with it as well.
